Long Night of Science
The voxelmasters were presenting navigation with off-the-shelf laptop computers to the public at the “Lange Nacht der Forschung”.
The Image Guided Intervention Toolkit, realized by Özgür Güler, PhD, voxelmaster graduate, was used to teach the basics of clinical intraoperative navigation to the public. With the IGI Toolkit, navigation is realized in CT data of an object (a Lego house), a standard laptop with webcam and a pencil. Lego house and pencil are tracked with the laptop’s webcam as a 3D position sensing device. Full details of the IGI Tutorial Toolkit can be downloaded here: Güler et al..
Our stand was visited very intensively – all visitors from young to old were fascinated how “simple” it is to do a navigation. This showed our capabilities at the Medical University Innsbruck to the public. The effort was additionally mentioned in a supplement to the Tiroler Tageszeitung!
We will be back ….
